James Shawcroft, 17, is a twelfth grader from Fairbanks, Alaska. At the age of six, he and his family were introduced to the sport of mushing. It has been a part of their life ever since. Over the last five years, he has participated in five Jr. Willow 100's (2019 - 2nd, 2020 - 2nd, 2021 - 7th, 2022 - 9th, 2023 - 9th), three Jr. Iditarod's (2021 - 8th, 2022 - 10th, 2023 - 14th), and the Yukon 80 (2023 - 11th).  James is running the same dogs that he started with back in 2019, and they are also the same ones that his sister started with in 2017. This team knows the trail! Even if the dogs are a bit older than some teams, this musher can still be seen having the time of his life out there! When not on the trail, James enjoys using his drone for aerial photography, going snow machining, and being captain of the cross country ski team. With this being his last year in high school, he is making plans for college. James would like to attend flight school. After that, he would like to put his skills towards becoming a pilot and aerospace engineer.
