Nelson Wappett, 15, is a ninth grader from Fairbanks, Alaska. His first memories of being on the runners go back to the age of three. He is the third Wappett to run Jr. Iditarod and the family has raised a majority of the dogs in their kennel. Though this is his rookie Jr. Iditarod, he has run Jr. Willow 100 in 2021 (2nd place) and 2022 (4th) place. Aside from running dogs, Nelson also enjoys soccer, weight lifting, pack rafting, and hunting. After graduation, he plans to serve a mission with his church, attend college, and still run sled dogs.
